What the heck is an “art porn”? We took a closer look; our finding: art yes, porn not so much.
„The movie could be described as art porn“, I was told about the Swiss film project “Hard Stop”. Well well! I was supposed to check out porn then, eh? The funny part is, I am actually not particularly fond of sex movies. I’d rather act myself than merely watch others do it. Besides, the “storyline” – if what is happening can even be called that – in porn movies is often too crude, the performers too unaesthetic. It’s all for the job, I told myself. As not to be confronted with hour-long moaning and cunning mounting techniques on my own, I grabbed the DVD and headed out for a visit to a friend’s apartment on Josefstrasse.
The two of us sat on the sofa in the dimmed living room and waited expectantly, when the opening theme started. And we waited on expectantly, when the female protagonist walked around our beloved Zurich, filming strangers as well as herself with her cell phone. And we waited on expectantly, when the male counterpart appeared and lighted one cigarette after another, just to throw them away a few seconds later while cursing like a sailor. And we waited on expectantly, when main character Rhea (the gal with the cell phone) followed Dante (the smoker) to his place and made him an indecent proposal. For a classic fuck film there was already too much talking and not enough action. Then, finally, Rhea went to see him again, there was some screwing going on.
But even the sexual act wasn’t very porn-like – although at least she went full-frontal. Many more sex scenes followed, most of them slightly disturbing. Especially the one in which they make their rape fantasy come true. In no way was the movie erotic or a turn-on, particularly since wussy-boy Dante came after twenty seconds tops every single time. Moreover, they were both still as a grave while doing it; at most there was some panting. In short: I had expected worse – speaking about the sex scenes only. The story as such was much more perverted than Dante and Rhea’s nookies.
Since one or another might want to watch the movie themselves, I don’t want to spoil it for them. Just that much be said: The characters altogether will send chills up your spine! We couldn’t make sense of them, their contradictory behavior and feelings. The most annoying was early-cumming Dante, who failed throughout the whole movie to man up and additionally turned out to be a real leech. But what was worse, as my friend correctly noted, his butt was totally unsexy.
“Hard Stop” is less porn and rather an insight in (at least) three very upsetting characters. If you are interested in people and their complex ways of thinking and acting, you should definitely watch this flicker. If you prefer good old fuck films, I recommend http://www.youporn.com/.
“Hard Stop” (director: Sascha Weibel) is currently running in the cinema Arena Sihlcity.
